The Level 5 Management and Leadership qualifications are designed for practising middle managers and those aspiring to senior management who want to develop their core management skills such as managing resources, recruitment and information management.

These qualifications focus on the personal development of the individual learner’s management capabilities and competencies.

These qualifications are designed for managers, to support the development of their leadership and management skills in personal development, leadership, management resources, information, performance, customer and market awareness.

Although the qualifications can be offered to learners from age 16, in practice the majority of learners at this level would be expected to be over 19.

Versions: CMI Level 5 Management and Leadership

The CMI Level 5 Management and Leadership qualification is available as an Award, Certificate, Diploma and extended Diploma.

The difference between the options relates to the size of the qualification:

  • Award (1 Unit)
  • Certificate (2-3 Units)
  • Diploma (6-7 Units)
  • Extended Diploma (9+ Units)

Award:

The Level 5 Award in Management and Leadership lets you strengthen and develop your knowledge of middle management by focusing on specific management areas that are applicable to your job.

Certificate:

The Level 5 Certificate in Management and Leadership gives you a broader knowledge of middle management skills while focusing on the specific leadership areas appropriate to you and your workplace.

Diploma and Extended Diploma:

With a more comprehensive structure, our Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership and Level 5 Extended Diploma in Management and Leadership give you all the key skills and competencies you'll need to become an effective middle manager. A Diploma in Management and Leadership is the benchmark qualification for full CMI membership, taking you another step towards Chartered Manager status.

Learners can work towards a smaller version and create 'add-ons' to upgrade. e.g. Achieve the 'Award' and return to achieve a further 1-2 units and upgrade to a 'Certificate'.

When Can I Start

With CMS you can start your studies any day of the year. On receiving your deposit a tutor will make contact to learn more about you, plan your learning experience and issue the appropiate resources.

Blended learning allows you to study at a rate that suits you while applying what you learn into practise at work.

Assessments are workplace driven ensuring your times spent on assessments can also return dividends in the workplace and for your career.

The CMI Level 5 First Line Management can be funded in many ways with CMS:

Apprenticeships:

Available for those aged 19+ who wish to study towards a Level 3 or above qualification.

Interest Free Instalments:

Assessment Methods and Unit Options

Assessment is normally via practical work-based assignments ensuring you minimise time away from the office and that you undertake work study relevant to your own organisations context.

The below lists indicate the available units to choose from for respective versions.

Award:

Learners need to complete any combination of units to a minimum of 6 credits to achieve the qualification.

Certificate:

Learners need to complete any combination of units to a minimum of 13 credits to achieve the qualification.

Diploma:

Please note that for the Diploma version the below units are mandatory.

  • 5001 Personal development as a manager and leader
  • 5002 Information based decision making
  • 5004 Resource management
  • 5005 Meeting stakeholder and quality needs
  • 5006 Conducting a management project

Learners need to complete all core units from Group A, at least one core unit from Group B and three optional units from Group C to a total of at least 62 credits to achieve the qualification.
