Aims and Objectives

On completion of this course delegates will understand:

The requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act in relation to their work place environment.  The Act requires employees/employers to take active measures to ensure a safe place of work.

Their responsibility with regards to the legal requirements relating to work place safety.

Their responsibilities as laid out in the 'Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992'

The importance and application of risk assessment in the workplace

Who is the course intended for

Managers, Supervisors, Safety Professionals, Safety Representatives,  Site Forepersons, Anyone required to use lifting techniques as part of their job

Prior Knowledge:

No prior knowledge required, although a basic awareness of health and safety is preferable

Manual Handling Lifting Operations

Describe how the human anatomy and physiology is affected by manual handling operations
Outline the legal requirements relating to manual handling at work
Carry out a basic manual handling risk assessment
Apply a risk reduction strategy for manual handling operations using a hierarchical approach
Demonstrate safe handling techniques in the movement of various loads.

*nb: this course can be broken down into two half days - either covering Manual Handling/Lifting Operations only or Basic Health & Safety Operations only
